breast reduction
Breast reduction surgery
Some women complain of large breast sizes that cause physical and psychological problems affecting their daily life activities, prompting them to resort to plastic surgeons for breast reduction.
What is breast reduction?
It is a cosmetic surgery also known as (reducing breast reconstruction), aimed at excess fat, skin and tissue from the breasts, which helps women who suffer from large breast size in a way that limits daily activities.
What are the reasons why you have breast reduction?
- Psychological problems due to the poor personality of the patient due to the large size of the breast.
- Inability to participate in physical activities.
- Chronic back, shoulder and neck pain that needs constant accommodation.
- Difficulty finding bras and appropriate clothes.
- Allergies or chronic skin irritation under the breasts.
What cases are breast reduction not recommended?
- Diabetes and chronic heart problems.
- Obesity.
- Inability to stop smoking.
- Unwillingness to have scars on the breasts.
How is breast reduction done?
Under general anesthesia, the surgeon in the hospital makes a surgical incision around the aura area and the lower breast and then removes excess tissue, fat and skin from each breast to reduce their frozen body, in addition to changing the shape of the breast and correcting the position of the aura and nipple.
The surgeon also seeks to harmonize the shape of the breasts, but there may be some differences in size and shape. The aura may also decrease in size, and the scars of surgical incisions may fade over time, but they will never completely disappear and have little effect.
What risks may occur after breast reduction?
Breast reduction surgery has the same risks as any other type of major surgery, namely bleeding, infection and the reverse reaction to anesthesia. Other potential risks that may occur include:
- Bruising, which is usually temporary
- A slight effect of surgical scars.
- Lack of sensation of nipples or surrounding skin (halo)
- Difficulty or inability to breastfeed.
- Differences between the size, shape and consistency of the modified left and right breasts, which may lead to further surgery to improve appearance.
What are the expected results after surgery?
After a successful breast reduction, pain relief is expected to be observed at the top of the back, shoulders and neck, and the patient can return to physical activities, which increases her self-confidence and improves her profile.
Although the patient will notice the results immediately, it should be remembered that it can take months for both swelling to disappear completely and surgical scars to disappear, and the end result is generally permanent, but the shape and size of the breast can change due to factors such as ageing, gaining or losing weight.
