Gastric bypass surgery

Gastric bypass surgery

How to perform the process

of diverting is to connect the esophagus to the small intestine using a 25% part of the stomach and connecting it to the small intestine

This procedure is particularly prescribed for diabetics, stress patients and obese people.

The operation is performed without surgical intervention through the endoscope through three to five holes (average four) in the abdomen and the duration of the operation is one hour

The success rate of the operation depends on the skill of the surgeon and the instructions he provides to the patient after the operation, and the extent to which the patient follows the doctor’s instructions.

And it is by excluding a large part of the stomach or from the course of food so that the food does not reach it without cutting it and connecting this space to the small intestine

In the past, the operation was done through two connections, but now it is one link, which is of course easier as a process as well as better in terms of the patient if he wants to reverse the operation and restore normalcy.

As for the patient’s concerns, we can say that it is a process like all other operations, but it is very important for diabetics and diabetics.

After the operation, the stomach is examined in four stages before the patient is discharged from the hospital, to ensure that there is no leakage from the stomach.

The hospital stay is two days, but you should rest after the operation for two weeks if you are doing simple or office work, and a month in case of tired hard work.

After the operation, the patient’s weight stabilizes and reaches an ideal weight and the patient must maintain it.

The question is, does gastric bypass fit all ages?

It is universally recognized for all ages 18 to 65. Currently, it can be up to 14 years old if a teenager is found to be overly obese, affecting his health and development.

For younger ages, it can negatively affect the absorption of vitamins and minerals that a child needs at this age.

The method of eating after the process of Gastric bypass or gastric sleeve surgery:

On the day of operation the patient can drink a small amount of water the second day can drink water and liquids such as juices and the like for 15 days normally after 15 days the patient moves to the stage of soft eating such as yogurt or any food multiplied by the blender for 15 days after which it moves to the stage of natural eating such as meat and the like, which is the last stage in the diet after the operation

After the operation, the diet is divided into three stages and each stage lasts two weeks, i.e. the diet takes one and a half months.

Phase 1 (Fluid Diet): In the first week after the operation, we begin to drink light thin liquids such as water, tea, mint, anise, chamomile, meat broth, chicken, carrot juice, apples, berries, grapes and pomegranates on small sips so that the patient consumes about 1.5 liters of fluid per day.

In the second week, you start eating thick liquids such as frieze juice, kiwi- mango and transparent soups.

Phase 2: The patient begins to eat mashed or sticky ground food such as those who do not need to chew in the mouth such as (mahlabiya- rice milk – hummus – marinated – low fat cream cheese – boiled eggs half boiled – boiled and mashed vegetables)

Stage 3: the stage of food that does not need to be chewed as strongly as (cooked vegetables – minced meat – chicken thighs – fish)

The most important question that all people ask is what is the truth of vomiting and rewind after the operation?

Vomiting occurs only if the patient eats more food than the size of his new stomach, so there is no need for over-gratification so that you can re-eat in case of hunger, which can prevent rewind.

When am I going to get to the perfect weight?

Immediately after the operation, the weight begins to gradually decrease up to three months. After three months, the body begins to lose a large part of the weight. After seven months to a year, the patient reaches the ideal weight and stabilizes his weight and the patient must maintain his weight

.

Would you recommend gastric sleeves or a bypass?

The decision is usually made to the doctor to determine the patient’s need for gastric gyration or the diversion process, but the following points are taken into account:

1- Patient’s BMI:

  • In the process of sleeves, your BMI should not be less than 35 and if you have some chronic diseases such as diabetes, you should not be less than 30.
  • In the process of bypass the stomach, the BMI should not be less than 40 and if the patient complains of certain chronic diseases such as diabetes that are life-threatening, you should not be less than 30.

2- Stomach diseases:

  • Avoid gruffling of the stomach for those who complain of stomach or digestive diseases such as
  • stomach ulcers.
  • Stomach bleeding.
  • Diaphragm hernia.

3- Patient’s desire:

  • The patient’s desire to lose weight may sometimes be taken at a faster rate, as the patient loses weight faster if the bypass.

4- Gastric gyration is a non-reversible process, while the diversion process is a reverse process in which the patient can re-transform as before.

5- One of the drawbacks of obesity is the need to take vitamins but protect against obesity, pressure and heart diseases and prevent you from taking too many medications.
